Here’s what top thought-leaders are saying about Narrative Coaching
Assistant Professor, Harvard Medical School, Founder/Executive Director, Institute of Coaching
One of the things I find quite unique in David's approach -- and I love it in his workshops and in his book -- is that he really brings together very, very high-end brain material academics and great rigor in a way that is very unusual. He also brings incredible depth to the actual application of this work in practice. As a rule, nearly all the time, people are good at one or the other. It's very rare that you get someone with such academic rigor who also has such a deep personal knowledge of how people function in long-term intensive coaching. And I find that to be very unusual. Dr. David Drake’s work with story is very powerful and has profoundly shifted my identity.
Global Alliance of Improved Nutrition, Amsterdam
David Drake’s methodologies offered me significant insights for how to better manage my global teams and design my workshop. His practical tools, like the Four Gateways, provide team members a fast access to the essence of what they want to achieve and how they can contribute better to the organisation. I used his “Emptying the Cup of Tea” tool to shape my workshops differently and they generated deeper organizational learning as a result. I am very grateful for being introduced to his innovative narrative coaching approach.
PhD Faculty, Fielding Graduate University, School of Human & Organizational Development, US
David has taken his doctoral research and created a globally recognized body of work. His systemic approach to developing people is on the leading edge of coaching.

This is a deeply thoughtful yet highly practical account of narrative coaching. David Drake has made a significant contribution to the field of coaching, not just to narrative approaches.

Most coaches deal with the surface of life, focusing on arranging behaviors and tasks. David has a way of quickly getting to the deeper personal narrative that shapes how we perceive daily life.
Once I understood the story I was living in, I had the power to change it.
Behavioral changes that had been a challenge seem much less daunting now that they are tied to a deeper intention.

As a seasoned coach, our guess is that you’re not coaching just for fun, for money, or because you fell into this career path by chance. You’re coaching because you’re on a mission to impact people, businesses, organizations, and the world around you.
Do you feel coaching has become too complicated?
As a coach, you’ve undoubtedly been exposed to many coaching models over the years as you’ve worked hard to create deep levels of impact and become a recognized expert in your field. The problem is that many of these models can become constraining as you progress as a professional coach.
Human beings are complex, and every human has a different story – different experiences that they bring to the table. Maybe you’ve noticed that many coaching models fail to consider the most important piece of any coaching situation: The individual story and experience of each client.
Dr. David Drake’s experiential process allows you to uncover, understand, and change what truly drives human behavior through listening and understanding triggers — a process that helps you to get to the crux of the matter in less time producing faster results for you and your clients. And that allows you to interrupt the behavioral patterns that create unwanted outcomes and learn how to consciously create beneficial ones that lead to incredible results – without feeling linear or mechanical.
Narrative coaching works in a way that aligns with the way our brains naturally work and, as a result, starts to build new neural patterns at the same time as it enables people to resolve their issue.
It’s time to get out of your own way.
The first step to interrupting behavioral patterns that create unwanted outcomes for your clients is to first learn to do this work on yourself.
Being able to understand the process from a first-hand perspective and share real-world examples with your clients will develop the rapport and credibility needed to create breakthrough moments, achieve lasting results, and develop the unique ability to understand the connection between stories, behaviors, and eventual outcomes.
WBECS has brought you Conversational Intelligence for Coaches and Coaching with ROI, two wildly successful programs that were met with amazing feedback from our community and resulted in incredible transformations for our participating coaches.
